About Us

Brief but rich history

Founded in 2004 by Rev. Violet Chanya, MCC is a beacon of hope and support for the vulnerable in Taita Taveta County, along the Kenyan Coast.

Mvono CBO began its journey with a heartfelt vision to extend grace and assistance to those in need. Initially established as a Self Help Group in 2006, our dedication and impact led to our elevation to a Community Based Organization in 2015, solidifying our commitment to the community we serve.

Our organization was initially founded with a focus on providing education, food, shelter, and clothing for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and widows in our community. To date, we have introduced several other programs aimed at economic empowerment, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, environmental conservation, and community capacity building. Our efforts continue to grow, driven by our mission to empower vulnerable individuals and contribute to a stronger, more resilient community.

Affiliated with the International Fellowship for Christ (IFC) Churches of Taita Taveta County, we operate with a strong network of support and collaboration, enabling us to reach more individuals and families in need.

In August 2021, we expanded to include the Mvono Community ICT Center. Established with the support of Grace Ministry based in the USA, who constructed the facility. The center provides basic computer skills to post-secondary students as they await tertiary education placements. The ICT center has benefitted over 300 students, helping them gain foundational digital skills and access new opportunities. This center also houses our organization’s offices.

Our mandate is deeply rooted in the scripture of James 1:27, which emphasizes the importance of pure and undefiled religion in the eyes of God. We strive to fulfill this mandate by actively engaging in:

  • Providing care and support to orphans, widows and victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in their time of need.
  • Extending assistance and resources to vulnerable children, ensuring their well-being and development.
  • Upholding a commitment to personal integrity and spiritual purity in all our endeavors.
